Chapter 3

[On the way to the studio in the Pink Bentley with Nicki driving, and Safaree in the Passenger seat. Safaree is looking out the window thinking of the past Hours ]

SAFAREE

The sun shined on my face as I stared out the window.  There was always something About L.A. that made me and Nic smile:  the nice weather and the free spirit in the air.  The birds and the bright sun could make anyone smile on a gloomy day, and Love in a Hatred Mood. Eh, maybe that’s why Nicki is still with me. I mean it was her idea to move here.  I felt so abominable and inane for even looking in another woman’s direction when I had such a beautiful one Right By My Side. Her marvelous body could ravish you at any moment, and her fascinating Smile could abrogate your ability to ever see again! How she got that body: I don’t know, but I do know I half to thank Mrs. Carol and Mr. Robert. But her appearance was the least important and to think about comparing to her spirit and personality not only as a girlfriend but as a friend. Onika Tanya Maraj: A woman that would pick you up with broken legs, and carry you a million miles. Through thick and thin and rough and soft, she was there. Well that’s what she does with me of course. She brought me from being nothing to something. From the streets of Southside Jamaican queens to the red carpet lying outside the Grammies. She loved and cared for me when she knew I had nothing going, and nothing coming for my life. I feel like a piece of shit hanging on her side: being a Black Man, letting the woman take care of ME. But I was going to change that; I could not just sit here and let her think I’m useless!  And what a beautiful woman as a person, and blessing from God she was. God knew what I wanted, and he delivered. I received, and he told me to obtain her I would have to support. So why was I messing with Sierra? Yea we laughed and had GREAT sex, but she didn’t care about me. At least that’s what I think. She only cares about money and my dick. And now she was telling me she Loved me, AHA. But there is something in Sierra that I love. She makes me laugh and she makes me feel GOOD. But was that enough?  Shaking my head trying to forget the thought, my pants started to vibrate. Realizing it was my phone I reached in my pocket, and pulled it out. Nic was playing “Weak” by SWV on the radio loud, so she didn’t hear the ringing. Looking on the front of the screen it read, “Sierra” with “California” under the name. I looked over to Nicki to see if she noticed anything, but she was too deep in the song. I tapped “Ignore” and sigh of relief. In less than 1 min., my phone began to vibrate again, and it was Sierra. Nicki parked into the driveway of the studio, so I stuck my phone on the side of me so she couldn’t see it.
She Looked in the back seat to get her purse, turned around, and questioned sarcastically, “Are you staying in the car, or are you ‘gonna come in?”
I looked over to her, and said,  “Ohh, ‘Imma come in, in a few minutes ‘gotta call my moms”
“KK baby. Tell her I said hey and I miss her,” she smiled closing the door. I looked at my phone and tapped “Answer”.
“Hey, Wassup?” I asked her in an uncertain guilty voice.
She cleared her throat, chewing gum and answered, “And exactly why was You been Ignoring my calls?”
“I told you that you don’t call me, I CALL YOU. I was in the car with Nicki when you blew up my Phone! She could have seen your name on my screen!”
“Nicki? Nicki who? I know ‘dat hoe? Describ her?” she asked in a Ratchet sarcastic voice.
I sighed and answered, “ Sierra please not today. I’m in the Studio parking lot and Nicki is waiting for me Inside, I half to-“
“But Safaree I thought you loved me?” she cut me off in a 10 year old voice. And as soon as I was about to respond, the Driver seat door swung open. Nicki was at the door and my heart dropped instantly. All I heard was “helooooo, Heloooooo” in my ear. I snapped out of fright and said into the phone, “Love You too Mama, See you next week.”
Sierra chapped her lips and jumped, “Ma-“ I hung up the phone before Nic could hear her loud Voice.
“I left my phone in the seat. What did your mom say?” She asked Smiling at me with the most joyful spirit. I opened the door putting one foot out, “uhhhh. . The usually. Just talking about the news.” She Smiled and she grabbed my hand walking into the studio with a smile.
